Living Legends Spotlight: Dr. John Miller

Originally from Moncks Corner, SC, Dr. Miller is a professional social worker and college professor. Dr. Miller currently serves as the Department Chair of Social Work at Benedict College in Columbia, SC. He is also a community organizer, scholar, and consultant. He has received notable recognition for his work. In 2017, Dr. Miller was selected as the Arkansas Social Worker of the Year by the Arkansas Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (AR-NASW). Dr. Miller earned his BA and MSW degrees from the University of South Carolina and his PhD in Social Work from the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Miller is a professor and a published author of many articles and a textbook, African American Perspectives: Matters of Consideration for Social Work Practice. He is an experienced leader who knows how to bring others together, an expert in team and coalition building, as well as an expert in program development. Since the launch of Miller Ignites Consulting, Dr. Miller and his team have worked with clients from Arkansas, Missouri, and South Carolina.. Before returning to SC, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Arkansas Little Rock, where he made major contributions to that program and to the 100 Black Men of Greater Little Rock, Inc. He also served as the President of the 100 Black Men of Greater Little Rock, Inc from 2012-2016. There is so much to say about Dr. Miller but of the most important is that he is a great husband to his wife and an amazing father to his two young sons.
